Although airlines may overbook and bump you from your seat, it is very unlikely that you will experience the same situation when dealing with moving companies. That is because there are so many moving companies these days that it is terribly unlikely that all of the moving companies available in a particular locale would be over booked with work at any one time. Still it does not hurt to call ahead well before your planned move to make sure that the moving companies that you are considering for your upcoming move are in fact available and willing to take on your business. If you don't, you have only yourself to blame.
